It's been doing a bit of touring of Hawaiian joints this summer. I got lunch here earlier in the week (close to work- does EVERYBODY work in this neighborhood?) Fried saimin with beef, Chinese chicken salad, and a side of mac salad. I;m convinced the mac salad has heroin or something in it.

Today I ordered on the phone and got a big combo-- I picked it up and tore-off. Chicken, Ribs and Teriyaki. Solidly good.

Hawaiian Drive Inn on Tully is as good as it gets for plate lunch in San Jose. Usually, "Hawaiian BBQ" from L&L and the like is off my list unless I can't drive all the way to El Camino for Korean and I just HAVE to eat something with rice. I'm happy to say that this place is much better than just a L&L clone. The "teriyaki steak" w/ broccoli combo is my usual, but the chicken, kalbi and katsu are all great choices. I was even pleasantly surprised with the laulau and kalua pig! (my only criticism is that the pork is too lean, but most people here would think this is a good thing) Today, as I was leaving, I saw someone had ordered a chicken musubi. I had never thought to order one, but next time I will have to try it out. Someone come with me so we can split an order of malasadas too. DON'T forget to request kim chee. It's free and very good. Once I got all the way home only to discover I forgot to ask for kim chee. I was pretty close to driving back for it.

The strip mall they share their parking lot with sucks, but there is usually parking right in front. The people at Hawaiian Drive Inn are friendly and courteous and the dining area is clean (I even heard them playing Lukie D over the stereo once). The owners are really nice too.

Well, seeing as how I live down the street and have been eating here about 3-4 times a week (dishes and cookware are packed away) I figured I had better write a review. The Yelp sticker on the front door is a constant reminder of how much of a slack ass I am when it comes to writing new reviews . Highly recommend #2, the BBQ mix plate. Good variety at a reasonable price and usually feeds 2. Macaroni salad is mMm mMm gOod!

Love it! Hawaiian Drive-Inn is literally down the street from my house, so I remember when it use to be a Weiner's. Anyway, this place is the best Hawaiian place out of all the other Hawaiian place's in San Jose, like L&L and Aloha Kitchen. The chicken katsu has the BEST sauce ever. I can practically down shots of that sauce by itself! Hahaa. The area that its in sucks just because the area is so small. Other than that, 5 stars!;

With all the rave reviews, this place did not live up to the hype. I got the bbq mix plate to go and I have to saw I was very disappointed. The portion size was good, but the bbq i would say was average at best. The beef & short ribs tasted ok...just ok, and the chicken lacked flavor. The meat lacked the the charred grilled taste that comes with grilled food. Although, the staff was pleasant/cheerful, I will not be back again.

~Aloha~ This place is Wiki-wiki good. It would definitely make the locals in Lahaina proud. The only thing that it left out, for me to give it a 5 star rating, was an ABC store on the corner. And we all know there is nothing better to do after you eat a nice greasy Hawaiian meal then to shop it off at an ABC store.

This Hawaiian shack has all of your favorite Hawaiian delicacies. Katsu Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Spam Musubi, Saimin, Ma-hi Ma-hi, Kalua Pork, and my favorite the Macaroni Salad. If your Hawaiian, then you know there is nothing better to do than to mix a little bit of rice with some mac salad and a big chuck of chicken all in one bit, and this luau encourages you to do so with the huge portion size. But be ware, once you come here you'll get hooked, and pretty soon you'll look like a local, fat with a big gut. But at least you'll be happy, like most Hawaiians.

They also have Hawaiian Sun drinks, and the manager speaks pigeon Hawaiian!!! How much more Hawaiian can you get? Try this place out and you won't be disappointed. Next time I come I am wearing flip flops, board shorts, and an aloha shirt. Ma halo

Mahalo~ hah Ok to start this place has good bbq chicken with their mac salad. I would say tho the parking there is kind of hard but i guess it doesnt matter as long as you get served but yea. I go there from time to time and thats the onlee thing i would get because the rest of the stuff is really wateva. The one thing i would like to add is that the food is really greasy but the good thing is that they dont have chicken skin on it like the other hawaiian bbq places that i've been to. I wouldnt say its the bomb cuz i think its similar to many other nationality plate that consist of bbq. Dont order the big plate cuz your not gonna finish it, order the mini. its good and proportional.

Ireally prefer this over L&L's and Ohana's. I think you just get a lot more food, and the food quality and service is better too.

Let me start this off by saying that my husband LOVES the chicken katsu at this particular Hawaiian Drive Inn. All he orders is katsu therefore he considers himself the Expert on All Things Katsu.

We've eaten here many times, and the quality of the food and service has always been above average. Recently I decided to have them cater my daughters birthday party. I pre-ordered 5 trays of food about a week in advance, working with Anna at the restaurant. Anna called me to confirm the pick up the day of the party and I told her I was going to be half an hour late. She said she would have the food ready accordingly to ensure freshness.

I walked in and all the food was ready to go, each tray was in a cardboard holder (the kind you get when you buy a case of soda) to prevent spillage. The trays were piled HIGH. The food was a hit at the party and whatever leftovers we had were great the next day. If you get food catered from this Hawaiian Drive Inn, you can put your confidence in Anna. She works fast with a high level of competence and friendly customer service. Service was so good if I had cash I would've tipped the guy who carried the food to my car. Four stars for awesome service and great food!

There happen to be so many Hawaiian bar b Que place popping up now but for me this is the best one. Prices are good and the portions are are large. Staff is nice but they are a little slow. Place is clean.

I get the bar b Que combo and my husband always gets the katsu chicken with macaroni salad. They let you substitute your side dishes and they have expanded the menu but we seem to always go back and order the same thing however i have tried Kahlua Pork w/Cabbage pretty good stuff and when I am sick I like the saimin chicken, basically it like top Ramon but so much better with chicken and green onion and the broth is awesome.

Parking is lousy and the old owner Rudy of the gas station Chevron used to let you park there but he sold it to a franchise that wont let you park there anymore. Plenty of sitting to dine in as well.

I'm not a big fan of Hawaiian cuisine, but I had to order some for an event that I was going to. They were great because I ordered about 20 mini meals and they had everything ready in an hour on such short notice. The owner was so sweet and helpful and even let us try some Hawaiian sodas for free. If you ever need to order something for a potluck, try them! The spam musubis I ordered were the first to disappear!

BYEE BYE Weinerschnitzel!!!! HELLO HAWAIIAN DRIVE INN Out of all the Hawaiian bbq places popping up this is my favorite!!! BOO!! because.. of the ghetto location. too much of the hassle with ghetto Tully Road congestion the parking situation... the vietnamese restaurant is pretty yummy and popular too!

YAY!! chicken katsu is perfectly cooked by my standards.. light and crispy and not too salty. they make the mac salad just the way i like it... not too mayonaisy best tasting katsu sauce to me! yummy smoothies! they take card!!!! whoo hoo! they pretty cheap and great portions for two!

**grab a menu and order while you try to make your way through Tully road so that you dont have to wait too long! :)

Decent plate lunch. Just go here and stuff your face. I think it's as good as L&Ls. I just like the Mac Salad at L&Ls better. Other than that, I'll be back for the SPAM Musubi.

I think this is the best Hawaiian fast food place in San Jose.. Yes the building may look funny, but come on now - before Hawaiian Drive Inn, it was a Wienerschnitzel. Parking sucks here, as well as trying to get out of this plaze. (Hint: Park at the gas station next door.)

Portions here are larger than what you'd get at their competitors and the food tastes better. Their macaroni salad is the best. It's cash only, but they do have an ATM. Plus if you decide to dine in, there lots of seating.

They make your food fresh and fast! We decided on the smallest family pack with chicken Katsu, ribs, and beef. The meal is supposed to feed 3-4 people, but we had SO much food left over. Rice and macaroni salad do not come with the meal deal, so we purchased those separately. I think we spent $25.00 all together. Not bad, considering we are a family of 4.

The Katsu was the best I've had anywhere yet. It was tender and juicy on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The sauce that came with them was SO good! It was sweet and savory, but had just a little bit of spiciness to it. The ribs were good and not over seasoned, and the beef was sweet and tender. The only thing I didn't care for was the macaroni salad. I can't wait to come again to try thier burgers!

This place is great and totally affordable. You can always expect to great a decent helping of food that will get you full. They also have a tasty assortment smoothies and treats. The service here is wonderful. Very polite and professional. The place has a great atmosphere overall and is out of no ones funds.

would much rather go here than to Aloha Kitchen or L&L's even though the parking stinks here. The quality of their food is great even though they got rid of my favorite beef curry. I also like their katsu sauce the best and now I believe they sell malasadas, how great it that?!

I usually call for a take-out order right before I leave my house, have my boyfriend drop me off so he doesn't have to park, run in & pay/pick-up my order, and go home to enjoy this delicious food so I don't have to worry about parking!

I Love the fact that Hawaiian Drive Inn has ahi poke unlike other places like L&L and other Hawaiian plate lunch places. Also, the poke is $3.99 while Aloha Kitchen just down the street charges around $8.00 for less.

My monthly or weekly fix of chicken katsu comes straight from here. I live close by to 4 different Hawaiian joints and it is straight competition from all of them. I receive coupons in the mail to friends pulling me left and right to eat here, there, or anywhere. However, this place manages to keep their prices below their competitors and keep the quality and quantity above the rest as well. I love the fact how their mini plates are the biggest out of the rest and the customer service via togo, phone, at the restaurant, etc, are all impeccable! By the way, if the parking lot is full, you can park at Chevron next door!

There have been a large number of Hawaiian restaurants popping up in San Jose recently. Is it a new fad? Anyhow, I have tried all of them and Hawaiian Drive Inn is the best. I always get the Chicken katsu plate. The sauce that it comes with is super yummy. I wish I could take a jar home and dip all of my fried chicken in it. Parking can be a pain but you can use the parking lot at the gas station next door.

This is my favorite place for spam musubi...it far surpasses any other HI chain on that front. Tasty chicken katsu, cheap prices, and the mini plates are pretty huge. I'll definitely be back!
